Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty called on Oct. 23 for crypto issuers to tell buyers what projects promise and who is accountable. He backed the SEC’s proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, which could exempt eligible fundraising transactions from registration while requiring issuer disclosures and retaining antifraud and antimanipulation rules. The framework remains a proposal.
A Harris Poll survey commissioned by the National Cryptocurrency Association, which Alderoty also leads, found that half of recent new-offering participants reported losing money in the preceding 12 months through hacks, abandoned projects or fraud. The responses were self-reported; the survey covered 1,004 U.S. crypto holders, including 401 recent new-offering participants.
