XRP Ledger Approaches Oct 23 Upgrade

XRP Ledger’s Critical Software Update Set for Oct. 23 Activation

  • The XRP Ledger (XRPL) aims to activate the fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment at approximately 09:34 UTC on Oct. 23, contingent upon maintaining over an 80% validator support threshold.
  • As of mid-October, between approximately 26 to 29 validators out of a total of around 32 to 35 were in favor of the upgrade.
  • The update addresses a flaw in the PaymentBurn feature that could allow token creation instead of destruction under specific conditions.
  • Despite corrections related to lending infrastructure, native XRPL lending remains unapproved with only about a maximum of roughly 53% validator support.

The upcoming fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment on the XRP Ledger focuses on correcting existing software behaviors rather than introducing new trading products, ensuring safer token handling and transaction processes.

The activation of this software correction is crucial for preventing unintended token minting and improving network security, although native lending features remain pending due to insufficient validator approval. (Source)
