Institutional Investors Shift: Bitcoin, Ethereum Out, XRP In

Institutional investors recently sold Bitcoin and Ethereum worth $690 million amid a market crash, while showing increased interest in XRP and Solana. This shift occurred as Bitcoin prices fell below $61,000 and Ethereum under $3,300, both dipping by 5% in just 24 hours.

Investment products related to cryptocurrencies saw a $584 million outflow in a week, with Bitcoin alone experiencing a $630 million outflow. In contrast, Solana recorded $2.7 million in buying activity, and XRP saw $0.7 million in investments, despite a market-wide selloff.

The selloff was primarily driven by investors in the United States and Canada, accounting for $475 million and $109 million respectively. Meanwhile, Switzerland and Brazil bucked the trend with inflows of $39 million and $48.5 million.

This strategic move by institutional investors signifies a shift in preference towards altcoins like Solana and XRP, suggesting a potential reallocation of assets amid market volatility. The long-term significance lies in the growing confidence in altcoins as viable alternatives to traditional crypto giants like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
