Lazarus Suspected in Bitget’s $157M-Plus XRP Theft

Bitget said unauthorized transfers from some of its hot and warm wallets drained nearly $351 million in crypto. CEO Gracy Chen said the exchange froze withdrawals, while deposits and trading stayed open. She said cold wallets were not compromised, user funds were safe and Bitget’s User Protection Fund covered the loss.

Lookonchain reported that nearly 102.9 million XRP, worth almost $158 million, was stolen, making it the largest stolen asset by value. Chen said attackers breached a backend wallet system but did not steal private keys. She and some on-chain analysts suspect North Korea’s Lazarus Group, but Chen said that attribution is not confirmed.
