SEC Transparency Demanded in XRP Case

Empower Oversight is intensifying its quest for transparency from the US SEC over potential conflicts of interest in cryptocurrency regulation. Since August 2021, the organization has pursued FOIA requests to uncover communication records between SEC officials and external parties regarding cryptocurrencies.

For nearly three years, Empower Oversight has sought clarity on the roles of former SEC officials William Hinman and Jay Clayton, who have been pivotal in the regulation of Bitcoin, Ether, and XRP. Hinman’s 2018 speech declaring Ether as not a security and Clayton’s regulatory actions have been central to the scrutiny.

Despite the SEC-OIG nearing a report completion, Empower Oversight remains concerned about its scope and thoroughness. The delay in FOIA responses has led to multiple lawsuits, highlighting the SEC’s alleged lack of transparency.

The ongoing Ripple vs SEC case underscores the need for regulatory clarity in the cryptocurrency market. Empower Oversight’s push for transparency aims to ensure that the SEC can manage and avoid conflicts of interest effectively.

Ensuring transparency in the SEC’s decision-making process is crucial for the integrity and future of cryptocurrency regulation.
