Solana ETF Rejection Risk: VanEck Faces SEC Challenge

On Thursday, June 27, investment firm VanEck filed for a spot Solana ETF with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This move is significant as it faces potential rejection due to risks highlighted in the filing.

One major concern is the concentrated ownership of SOL tokens. By November 2023, the 100 largest Solana wallets held nearly one-third of all SOL. This concentration could adversely affect the market price if large holders decide to sell.

Moreover, Solana’s unique Proof of History (PoH) consensus mechanism, while enabling faster transactions, has also led to several network outages. This could be another factor for the SEC to consider.

Despite these risks, the news boosted Solana’s price, which surged to $150. This highlights the market’s optimism. The long-term importance of this filing lies in its potential to shape future ETF approvals and the broader crypto market landscape.
