On July 30, crypto investigator ZachXBT revealed links between the hacks of X accounts belonging to actors Sydney Sweeney and Bob Odenkirk and convicted UK hacker Gurvinder Bhangu, aka Gurv.
The compromised accounts were used to promote scam meme coins, generating $530,000 in stolen funds. Sweeney’s account was hacked on July 2, leading to a Solana-based token spike.
Proceeds were converted to Bitcoin and Ethereum, with funds also sent to crypto casinos and gift cards. The investigation underscores a troubling trend of celebrities being targeted for crypto scams.
