Solana surpassed Ethereum in decentralized exchange (DEX) trading volume for the first time in July, hitting $55.8 billion. Ethereum recorded $53.8 billion during the same period, marking a significant shift in the crypto landscape.
This milestone was driven by the popularity of memecoins on Solana, with projects like Dogwifhat (WIF) and Bonk (BONK) attracting speculative investors. Celebrities also contributed to the surge by launching new tokens on Solana.
Meanwhile, Ethereum continues to be the primary platform for decentralized applications (dapps) and saw renewed interest after a technological upgrade reduced fees. Despite outflows from newly launched spot Ethereum ETFs, Ethereum’s daily active addresses increased by 127% since the start of the year.
Solana’s rise in DEX volume demonstrates its growing influence, while Ethereum’s stronghold on DeFi and institutional interest highlight its long-term strategic importance.
