Verified Credentials Launched by Internet Computer

Internet Computer, one of the largest decentralized blockchain networks by market cap, has launched Verified Credentials (VC), a solution to enable efficient and trustworthy sharing of personal data in Web3.

VC will help limit fake news and spam on social media by eliminating bots and fake accounts. Unlike platforms like MetaMask, VC offers walletless infrastructure for private credential management. Jan Camenisch, CTO of DFINITY Foundation, highlighted that users only need a device with a passkey and a browser.

Part of the Internet Identity focus area, VC also allows users to assign identity attributes, a feature not available on platforms like MetaMask. Internet Computer, launched in 2021, has seen significant growth with features like Chain-key Bitcoin (ckBTC) and a $17 million TVL. Its ecosystem includes dApps such as Helix Markets and ICDex, and the ICP token has a market cap of over $3.7 billion.

VC’s introduction marks a step forward in decentralized internet identity, offering long-term benefits for privacy and security in Web3.
