Solana’s Alpenglow consensus upgrade went live on mainnet around 1:54 p.m. UTC on Wednesday, according to the Solana Foundation’s dashboard. Its target is to cut transaction finality from about 12.8 seconds to roughly 150 milliseconds, but the dashboard showed 6.6-second finality at press time. The source does not provide a calendar date for the activation.
The first phase, Votor, replaces the existing voting and finalization mechanism with direct validator voting and a certificate-based system. A later phase is intended to replace the Turbine block data-distribution protocol with Rotor. Cointelegraph said it had sought comment from the foundation on testnet measurements and expected performance in real-world applications.
