Cardano DeFi Plummets 50% as RealFi Rises

Cardano Launches RealFi to Enhance DeFi and Support Emerging Markets

  • On Oct. 1, RealFi launched USDrf and sUSDrf on Cardano, aiming to bridge blockchain finance with lending in emerging markets.
  • Cardano’s total value locked in DeFi has decreased over 50%, from approximately $150 million in May to around $67 million.
  • Dollar-linked tokens on Cardano are nearing an all-time high of $70 million, indicating strong stablecoin liquidity.
  • Retail users can acquire USDrf but cannot redeem it directly for dollars, while verified institutions can mint and redeem at a nominal value of $1 per token.

RealFi aims to connect stablecoin capital with real-world credit portfolios, enhancing financial activity beyond native token trading. This initiative is crucial as Cardano’s DeFi footprint contracts amid increasing stablecoin liquidity.

The launch of RealFi reflects Cardano’s strategy to revitalize its DeFi ecosystem by leveraging its growing stablecoin base, which is approaching $70 million in liquidity. (Source)
