Cardano Fixes Exploit But 2.4M ADA Missing

Cardano’s Splash Incident Leaves OADA Holders Trapped After ADA Drain

  • On September 13, an attacker drained a total of 2,434,648 ADA and 1,988,222 OADA from the Splash ADA/OADA StableSwap pool.
  • After the attack, the pool was left with only 10 ADA and approximately 1.44 million OADA, while its tradable ADA reserve turned negative.
  • The incident report indicated that missing checks in the validator logic allowed transactions to proceed even when reserves were negative.
  • Other pools holding OADA had minimal balances, indicating a liquidity crisis for OADA holders.
  • As of September 15, Optim Finance paused operations and began indexing affected addresses without announcing restored liquidity or redemption options.

The vulnerability exploited in the Splash pool highlights critical flaws in liquidity management within decentralized finance platforms like Cardano. Restoring functionality for trapped OADA holders will require not just code fixes but also increased ADA liquidity or a redemption mechanism.

Following the attack that removed over 2.4 million ADA, many OADA holders remain unable to exit their positions due to depleted liquidity across available pools. (Source)
