On June 5, the Cosmos Hub blockchain network faced a four-hour outage due to a bug in the v17 upgrade. The bug was linked to a Liquid Staking Module (LSM) security vulnerability.
Developers quickly identified and fixed the issue, but block production resumed only after most validators applied the patch. By around 12:30 A.M. GMT, the network was operational again. Ethan Buchman, co-founder of Cosmos, noted that such downtime is rare but inevitable, underscoring the importance of dedicated developers and validators.
The v17 upgrade, supported by 99.8% of voters, brought significant features such as the “partial set security” proposal and ICS2.0. Despite the outage, the ATOM token remained stable at $8.65, up 0.67%.
The Cosmos Hub aims to interconnect thousands of blockchains, operating on a proof-of-stake mechanism, enhancing network security and validator customization. This event underscores the network’s resilience and the importance of ongoing development.
