Polkadot-backed IndyCar racer Conor Daly achieved a top-10 finish at the prestigious Indianapolis 500. Daly started in 29th place and impressively moved up 19 spots, leading for 22 laps before speed limitations affected his performance.
This marked the first major athlete sponsorship through a blockchain-based community, with Daly receiving a 95.8% approval rating from the Polkadot community. The sponsorship aims to boost publicity for Polkadot and involves a one-year collaboration with community events and digital campaigns.
Daly noted that starting from the back impacted his ability to compete with the frontrunners. Despite this, he considered the top-10 finish a “huge accomplishment” and proudly displayed the “biggest mover” trophy he received.
Polkadot’s official social media handle praised this milestone, noting that the blockchain network was “well represented in the biggest single-day sporting event and motorsports race in the world.” This partnership aims to enhance Polkadot’s visibility and technology promotion in the long term.
