Polygon Launches $1B POL Tokens for Developers #Crypto

Polygon, the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain, has unveiled a Community Treasury initiative funded with 1 billion POL tokens to drive developer engagement over the next decade. Announced on June 11, this program allocates 1% of the network’s annual emissions, as detailed in the POL whitepaper.

Polygon’s Community Grant Program (CGP) has launched its first season, offering developers 35 million MATIC, valued at about $22 million. Future seasons will offer up to 100 million POL tokens as the network transitions from MATIC to POL. The CGP aims to support early-stage builders with essential funding, stating that building is hard and true innovation requires taking chances.

Developers can apply for grants from June 11 to August 31, with amounts ranging from 5,000 to over 50,000 MATIC. The Community Treasury Board will oversee the selection process. Applications are open for the General Grants Track, which includes all projects on the Polygon protocol, and the Consumer Crypto Track, focusing on consumer adoption projects like gaming and NFTs.

Crypto community members have welcomed the initiative, with game developer Chris Heatherly noting it could make Polygon the hottest chain due to the rewards. This initiative is strategically important as it aims to foster innovation and long-term growth in the Polygon ecosystem.
