PYUSD Growth: Leveraging Solana’s Stablecoin Power

PayPal has expanded its US dollar stablecoin, PYUSD, to the Solana blockchain network, according to a May 29 statement. This move aims to provide users with faster, secure, and cheaper stablecoin transactions.

Since its debut on Ethereum in August 2023, PYUSD has seen modest growth and regulatory attention from the SEC. Solana, emerging as a stablecoin powerhouse in early 2024, was chosen for its high transaction speeds and low costs.

Phantom, a popular Solana wallet service, announced zero transaction fees for PYUSD transfers. With over $4 billion in stablecoin supply, Solana leads in tokenized transactions, driven by DeFi activity and a memecoin frenzy.

Expanding PYUSD to Solana aligns with PayPal’s goal of enhancing digital currencies for commerce, potentially boosting adoption among its 30 million merchants. This strategic move highlights Solana’s growing dominance in the stablecoin market.
