Solana Outpaces Ethereum DEX Volume in July

In July, Solana’s decentralized exchange (DEX) volume surpassed Ethereum’s, reaching $55.8 billion compared to Ethereum’s $53.8 billion, as per DefiLlama data. This marks Solana’s second-highest monthly volume, following March 2024’s $60.7 billion peak.

Solana’s volume surge is attributed to platforms like Raydium, Orca, and Phoenix, while Ethereum’s volume is mainly driven by Uniswap. Despite this, Ethereum still leads the DeFi space with a 61% market share and $67 billion in locked assets, whereas Solana holds only 4.64% with $5.16 billion in total value locked.

Solana’s growth is driven by increased memecoin activity and stablecoin usage. USDC transactions on Solana have exceeded $8 trillion since last year. However, concerns about wash trading have risen, with reports indicating that 93% of Solana transactions may be inorganic.

The long-term importance lies in Solana’s ability to sustain genuine trading activity and address wash trading issues to maintain its growth trajectory.
