The Web3 Foundation awarded its first Decentralized Futures (DF) grant in Asia to PolkaPort East on June 4, aiming to expand Polkadot’s presence in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. This grant supports PolkaPort East’s mission to enhance investor relations and growth for Polkadot in the region.
The grant is part of an initial $20 million and 5 million DOT tokens allocated to Decentralized Futures. This funding helps both for-profit and non-profit entities that bolster Polkadot’s ecosystem. PolkaPort East co-founder Max Rebol emphasized the grant’s critical timing for boosting Polkadot’s decentralization.
Co-founder Thibault Perréard noted that the grant enables tapping into Hong Kong’s innovation hubs and fostering ties with local governments and global enterprises. David Hawig of Web3 Foundation highlighted the project’s role in enhancing connectivity and driving the vision of a decentralized internet.
This strategic move aims to solidify Polkadot’s long-term growth and decentralization in Asia.
