Solana Rolls Out Its Biggest Upgrade, Alpenglow

Solana activated the Anza-built Alpenglow consensus protocol on mainnet on October 21, 2026, fully replacing TowerBFT. Solana said the upgrade cut block finality time from about 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds. Block finality is the point at which a block can no longer be reverted.
