Celo Opera Partnership Expands Stablecoin Use

Opera and Celo Foundation Expand Partnership for Global Stablecoin Adoption

  • Opera and the Celo Foundation aim to make low-cost stablecoin payments accessible to a billion people by 2030.
  • MiniPay, built on Celo, has grown to over 11 million activated wallets and processed more than 300 million transactions since its launch in September 2023.
  • The partnership will introduce stablecoin-backed payment cards and expand real-world asset offerings with a Mini App Roadshow planned for Asia and South America in early 2026.
  • Integration with Mercado Pago and Brazil’s PIX system enables stablecoin-to-real-time payments in Argentina and Brazil, with plans for global expansion.
  • Latin America recorded nearly $1.5 trillion in crypto transaction volume from July 2022 to June this year, with Brazil leading at $318.8 billion.

Opera’s collaboration with the Celo Foundation is set to enhance financial inclusion by expanding access to stablecoin payments worldwide through innovative features like payment cards and regional roadshows targeting strong developer communities.

This initiative highlights the growing importance of stablecoins in global financial systems, as evidenced by the substantial crypto transaction volumes in Latin America, particularly driven by stablecoin activity in countries like Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia. (Source)
