  • G20 finance ministers and central bank governors supported clearer regulatory pathways for digital assets during their Aug. 31-Sept. 1 meeting in Asheville, North Carolina.
  • The G20 Chair’s Statement listed digital assets as a priority for the U.S. presidency in 2026, alongside sovereign debt and financial literacy.
  • A Financial Stability Board review in October found progress on crypto asset regulation but noted less advancement on global stablecoin arrangements.
  • The global stablecoin market was valued at approximately $315 billion as of early April, according to Bank for International Settlements General Manager Pablo Hernández de Cos.
  • A July Financial Action Task Force assessment revealed that only one out of the assessed jurisdictions achieved full compliance with Recommendation 15.

The G20 has emphasized the importance of establishing clear regulatory frameworks to support economic growth through digital assets, highlighting the role of private-sector innovation in this process. The focus includes addressing stablecoin risks and enhancing anti-money laundering measures globally.

By promoting regulatory clarity, the G20 aims to reduce fragmented treatment across jurisdictions, potentially lowering compliance costs and fostering a resilient digital asset ecosystem.(Source)
