Democrats’ AI-Center Push Could Hurt Bitcoin Miners

Texas Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa vowed to halt new data center approvals after her November 3, 2026, election win, until lawmakers pass protections. She has not imposed the moratorium. Tech investor Gavin Baker said Hinojosa has stated that already permitted projects could finish construction; he said those permits cover the pipeline through 2027 and likely into 2028.

Sen. Bernie Sanders called for a national moratorium, but that remains a proposal. Wells Fargo says Texas holds 27% of planned U.S. data center capacity. On November 5, shares of IREN fell 16% and Cipher Mining fell 14.6% amid what the source describes as investor fears of restrictions on AI development.
