Bitcoin Buyer Launches New BTC Ecosystem Initiative

Metaplanet Ventures to Boost Bitcoin Infrastructure in Japan

  • Metaplanet holds a total of 35,102 BTC, making it Asia’s largest publicly listed bitcoin holder.
  • The company plans to invest approximately JPY (¥) 4 billion (around $27 million) over the next two to three years.
  • Its new subsidiary, Metaplanet Ventures K.K., will focus on building regulated bitcoin financial infrastructure in Japan.
  • The first investment will be ¥400 million (about $2.7 million) into JPYC Inc., a stablecoin issuer, scheduled for April.
  • Japan is expected to reclassify bitcoin as a regulated financial asset by January 2028, necessitating infrastructure development.

Metaplanet Ventures aims to enhance the domestic talent pipeline through various programs, including venture investments and grants for developers and educators focused on bitcoin. This strategic move aligns with Japan’s regulatory changes that could impact the financial landscape significantly.

With an investment of ¥400 million planned for JPYC Inc., Metaplanet is taking significant steps toward developing a robust ecosystem around bitcoin in Japan while maintaining its core focus on long-term holding of the cryptocurrency as a treasury reserve asset.
