Australia Launches First Spot Bitcoin ETF

Australia’s first spot Bitcoin ETF, approved by the Australian Securities Exchange, will start trading next week on the ASX stock exchange. The VanEck Bitcoin ETF, listed under the ticker VBTC, marks a significant step in crypto adoption in Australia.

This ETF will track the spot price of Bitcoin, providing a regulated and transparent investment vehicle for both advisers and investors. According to VanEck Asia-Pacific CEO Arian Neiron, there is strong demand for such an asset class. ASX’s Andrew Campion noted that interest has surged over the past 12 months, leading to the ETF’s approval.

Notably, Global X’s Bitcoin ETF was the best-performing listed ETF in Australia over the last year with a return of 153.5%. This strong performance underscores the potential impact of the VanEck Bitcoin ETF. The introduction of this ETF aligns Australia with other markets like the US and Hong Kong, which have also launched similar products.

This move is expected to boost Bitcoin buying and further integrate cryptocurrency into mainstream financial markets in Australia.
