Joana Cotar, an independent member of the German Bundestag, has voiced strong opposition to the European Central Bank’s (ECB) push for a digital Euro, advocating instead for Bitcoin (BTC). In her parliamentary speech, Cotar criticized the digital Euro’s unclear benefits and privacy risks.
Cotar emphasized that the demand for a digital Euro is limited to the ECB and select politicians, raising concerns about increased surveillance. She argued that Bitcoin offers a unique opportunity for investors, contrasting it with traditional assets.
Recently, the German government has been active in the crypto market, holding 39,826 Bitcoin valued at approximately $2.30 billion. They liquidated nearly $76 million worth of Bitcoin, impacting its price.
Cotar’s advocacy for Bitcoin underscores its potential to diversify assets and mitigate risks associated with traditional investments. This debate highlights the strategic importance of digital currencies in Europe’s financial future.
