Bitcoin, Oil: Iran Threatens Gulf Digital Infrastructure

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesman Hossein Mohebbi warned that seven undersea cables in the Strait of Hormuz could be targets amid the US-Iran conflict. He did not name the cables, and the source reports a warning, not an attack.

The International Cable Protection Committee has counted five active submarine cable segments crossing the strait. Cybersecurity firm inCyber says the affected cables carry less than 1% of global international bandwidth, so even a complete outage would not cause a worldwide blackout. The source says disruption could nevertheless hit Gulf connectivity hard, particularly in Iraq, whose two active international submarine cable systems both pass through the strait.
