Bitcoin Plummets Below $70K After $739M Move

Mt. Gox Transfers $739 Million in Bitcoin Ahead of Creditor Repayments

  • Mt. Gox moved a total of 10,422.65 Bitcoin (BTC), valued at approximately $739 million.
  • The transaction occurred at 04:47 UTC, confirmed in Bitcoin block #952,072.
  • Out of the total, 10,306.35 BTC worth about $730.78 million was sent to a new wallet address.
  • An additional 116.30 BTC, valued at around $8.25 million, was transferred to an account used for business operations.
  • The estate still holds approximately 34,504 BTC, valued at about $2.43 billion.
  • Repayment to creditors began in mid-2024 and has been delayed until October 2026.

This transfer is significant as it precedes the extended deadline for repayments to creditors and reflects ongoing administrative challenges faced by the trustee, Nobuaki Kobayashi.

As Bitcoin’s price fell below $70,000 amid market weakness, this substantial transfer may indicate preparations for future creditor payouts while highlighting the unresolved status of Mt. Gox assets. (Source)
