Bitcoin Plunge Looms: Mentougou’s 138K BTC Risk

Mt. Gox, known as Mentougou in Chinese, is set to repay over 138,000 Bitcoin (BTC), raising concerns about a potential market crash. The German government’s recent Bitcoin liquidations have already catalyzed a downturn.

Cycle Capital analysis indicates that a swift liquidation by Mt. Gox could exacerbate this trend, similar to the German government’s $2.5 billion Bitcoin sale. The market’s current inflows, including $880 million from Bitcoin ETFs over five days, may not suffice to balance the potential surge in supply.

If Mt. Gox releases its BTC over a month, over 4,300 BTC could hit the market daily, risking panic selling. Conversely, spreading the repayment over 2-3 months could stabilize prices but suppress short-term gains.

Crypto analyst Doctor Profit suggests that the injection of $16 billion USD from FTX repayments could counterbalance the negative effects, potentially pushing BTC prices to $80,000-$100,000. This highlights the strategic importance of timing and execution in mitigating market volatility.
