Bitcoin Seized: German Govt Acquires 3673 Coins

Germany’s government has attracted attention by selling 16,039 Bitcoin, worth about $1 billion, only to repurchase 3,673 BTC shortly after. This activity has led to intense speculation about their strategy and its market impact.

The Bitcoin was initially seized from Movie2k.to, a movie piracy site. Since June 2024, Germany has been actively selling these assets. Recently, they moved 9,983 BTC to a centralized exchange and 19,521.7 BTC to OTC traders.

This move caused market panic and significant price volatility. Some believe it was either a deliberate attempt to destabilize the market or due to internal disorganization. Subsequently, the German government’s buyback has been seen as a strategic “buy-the-dip” maneuver.

Political figures like Joana Cotar criticized the sell-off for being counterproductive. Despite the controversy, Bitcoin’s price rose over 3%, trading at $57,645.05 with a 40% surge in trading volume.

The German government’s actions highlight the strategic importance of timing in cryptocurrency markets and the psychological impact of large-scale transactions.
