Bitcoin Selloff: Germany Offloads 2700 BTC

The German government intensified its Bitcoin selloff, offloading 2,700 BTC to exchanges. This move is part of a strategy to liquidate Bitcoin seized from a movie piracy website.

According to Arkham Intelligence, the 2,700 BTC was distributed across several exchanges, with Coinbase, Kraken, and Bitstamp each receiving 400 BTC. A notable transaction involved 1,000 BTC being transferred to an address linked to the B2C2 Group. Additionally, 500 BTC were sent to another address, hinting at future sales. These transactions reduced Germany’s Bitcoin reserves to 6,394 BTC, valued at $379.8 million.

Interestingly, Kraken and Bitstamp re-transferred 500 BTC back to the German government, slightly increasing their holdings to $394.9 million.

This selloff began in mid-June 2024, when Germany held 50,000 BTC. Despite sell-offs, Bitcoin’s price remained stable around $57,000, though it hit a four-month low below $54,000 on July 8. Over the past 20 days, the government liquidated about 39,000 BTC, affecting the market.

In the long term, these sales reflect Germany’s strategic approach to managing its digital assets, impacting Bitcoin’s market dynamics.
