Coinbase Deal Sparks $2B BTC Transfer, Analyst Says

Bloomberg senior ETF analyst James Seyffart suggests a potential Coinbase deal may explain the US government’s recent $2 billion Bitcoin transfer. The US moved seized Bitcoin from Silk Road to two addresses, one holding 10,000 BTC worth $669.35 million and the other with 19,800 BTC worth $1.33 billion.

This speculation arises from the US Marshals Service selecting Coinbase to manage its digital assets. Seyffart noted that the distribution schedule indicates a five-year plan, not an immediate selloff. Crypto influencer MartyParty echoed this, emphasizing custodianship, not sale.

Critics, including Senator Cynthia Lummis and Anthony Scaramucci, have voiced concerns about the Biden administration’s anti-crypto stance. The US Marshals’ partnership with Coinbase, valued at $32.5 million over five years, highlights the exchange’s secure, institutional-grade services.

Despite BTC’s recent dip to $67,300, its trading volume surged 57% to $39.36 billion. This strategic move underscores the growing importance of secure crypto management in a polarized political landscape.
