Ethereum Decentralization Surpasses Bitcoin: Buterin’s Insight

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, recently critiqued the decentralization of Ethereum compared to Bitcoin during his speech at ETHCC in Brussels. He argued that Ethereum is more decentralized due to its diverse group of independent validators, unlike Bitcoin, where two mining pools dominate 50% of the computing power.

Buterin emphasized that Ethereum’s Proof-of-Stake model, adopted after the Merge, has significantly reduced energy use. Despite concerns about centralization due to the 32 ETH staking threshold, Ethereum’s 1 million validators highlight its decentralized nature.

He explained the tradeoff between lowering the staking threshold and increasing the number of validators, suggesting that Ethereum aims to balance this tradeoff. This decentralized approach brings benefits like a multi-client ecosystem and diverse user base across different jurisdictions.

Buterin’s insights underscore Ethereum’s strategic focus on robust decentralization, a critical factor for its long-term sustainability and trustworthiness in the blockchain space.
