Mt. Gox Transfers $3B Bitcoin, BTC Price Falls

In a major move, defunct crypto exchange Mt. Gox transferred approximately 43,000 Bitcoins worth $3 billion to an unmarked address, causing Bitcoin prices to slip by 2%. This marks the first significant transfer from Mt. Gox wallets in five years as it prepares to distribute remaining holdings to creditors.

Mt. Gox, once the largest Bitcoin exchange handling 70% of all Bitcoin trades, collapsed in 2014 after losing over 800,000 Bitcoins. The recent transfer is part of its ongoing bankruptcy resolution, with plans to distribute 142,000 BTC and 143,000 BCH by October 31, 2024.

Bitcoin’s price, which has been consolidating between $65,000 and $70,000, fell below $68,000 following the transfer. The broader implications highlight the significant impact of large Bitcoin movements on market stability.
