Hong Kong politician Johnny Ng has proposed the idea of a national Bitcoin reserve, inspired by former U.S. President Trump’s Bitcoin 2024 keynote speech. Ng, a member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council, emphasized Bitcoin’s growing acceptance as “digital gold” and its potential as a financial reserve.
In a post on X, Ng urged Hong Kong lawmakers to accelerate the development of the web3 industry by attracting more crypto businesses and talent. He plans to discuss the inclusion of Bitcoin in the city’s financial reserves with various stakeholders.
Former President Trump, at the U.S. Bitcoin Summit, promised to create a “strategic national Bitcoin stockpile” if elected. This initiative highlights the global trend of adopting Bitcoin and web3 technologies.
Ng’s advocacy positions Hong Kong as a potential hub for technological innovation and financial resilience.
