Bitcoin Surge: US Govt Moves $2B After Trump

Bitcoin fell about 1% to under $67,600 on Monday after the U.S. government transferred $2 billion worth of BTC from its Silk Road seizure. The transfer, split into two batches of $669 million and $1.33 billion, was likely moved to an institutional custodial service, possibly Coinbase.

The move comes shortly after former President Trump’s announcement to halt government Bitcoin sales if re-elected, sparking speculation about the current administration’s plans for the nation’s BTC reserves.

Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder of Gemini, pointed out the timing, suggesting a strategic reset with the crypto industry. The transfer marks a significant moment, as it’s the largest movement of Silk Road Bitcoin since its seizure.

Bitcoin briefly touched $70,000 before the news, making the decline notable. The long-term implications of this transfer on Bitcoin’s market stability and regulatory environment remain to be seen.
