Mt. Gox Secures $3B Bitcoin Post BitGo Transfer

The Mt. Gox Trustee transferred $2.25 billion in Bitcoin to BitGo addresses as part of a $9 billion creditor repayment plan. This move, completed on July 31, followed earlier transfers of $3 billion in Bitcoin to Kraken and $335.8 million to Bitstamp.

Historically significant, Mt. Gox’s disbursement marks a major step in repaying creditors from its infamous collapse. The transfer to BitGo was confirmed by emails cited in a subreddit and Akrham intelligence, although balances hadn’t reflected payments at press time.

Mt. Gox now holds approximately $3 billion in Bitcoin after transferring various cryptocurrencies to several exchanges. Notably, about 17,000 out of 20,000 creditors reportedly received payments, though this claim remains unverified.

This event underscores the substantial progress in resolving one of the largest crypto exchange bankruptcies. It marks a pivotal step toward restoring trust in the crypto market.
