Proton Unveils Self-Custodial Bitcoin Wallet

Proton, the Swiss-based privacy-focused company, has launched a self-custody crypto wallet called Proton Wallet, which initially supports only Bitcoin (BTC). This new wallet gives users full control over their private Bitcoin keys and aims to simplify Bitcoin transactions for the masses.

A standout feature is the ability to send Bitcoin via email, leveraging Proton Mail’s encryption infrastructure. This feature extends to users with third-party email providers like Gmail and Outlook if they have a Proton account.

Proton Wallet also allows users to buy BTC in over 150 countries through partnerships with providers like Banxa. With over 100 million users across Proton’s products, this could significantly boost Bitcoin adoption.

Security is paramount, with built-in two-factor authentication, an optional wallet passphrase, and the AI-powered Proton Sentinel for enhanced protection.

The launch of Proton Wallet marks a strategic step in making Bitcoin more accessible and secure, potentially driving wider adoption in the future.
