Asset manager VanEck is set to launch Australia’s first-ever spot Bitcoin ETF on June 20, following approval from the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). This ETF will be the lowest-cost Bitcoin ETF in Australia.
VanEck received regulatory approval from the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC), allowing it to list on the ASX, which holds around 90% of Australia’s equity portfolio. This makes the ETF an optimal delivery mechanism for Bitcoin investment. However, ASIC has warned investors about the risks of funds tracking cryptocurrency prices.
Globally, Bitcoin and crypto ETFs are gaining traction, with countries accelerating plans to onboard these financial products. Hong Kong, for instance, has opened spot BTC funds and approved Ethereum staking, signaling potential for significant capital inflows.
VanEck’s launch marks a pivotal moment for Australia’s financial market, potentially driving broader acceptance and investment in cryptocurrencies.
