Bitcoin Forfeiture Not Sold by DOJ

US Government Confirms No Sale of Bitcoin from Samourai Case

  • The US Department of Justice confirmed that no Bitcoin forfeited from the Samourai case has been sold.
  • This confirmation was shared by Patrick Witt, Executive Director of the White House President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets.
  • The US government currently holds over 328,372 Bitcoin, valued at over $31.3 billion.
  • A total of 127,271 Bitcoin was forfeited in October from a company involved in a fraudulent crypto scheme.
  • The Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) remains a priority for the Trump administration, aiming to accumulate one million Bitcoin over five years.

The confirmation that no Bitcoin from the Samourai case was liquidated ensures compliance with Executive Order 14233, which prohibits the sale of such assets. The US government’s strategy aims to build its Bitcoin reserves without incurring costs to taxpayers.

With over 328K BTC held, the government’s commitment to maintaining its digital asset holdings is clear and continues to be a significant focus moving forward.
