Bitcoin risks worst October in 12 years

Bitcoin struggled to hold around $77,000 at Friday’s US market open, falling 1.1% on the day as stocks and gold also declined. The Nasdaq Composite was down 2.5% at about 25,500, while gold fell as low as $3,891 an ounce.

At $77,000, Bitcoin was on track to end October down 7.7%, its worst October since 2014, according to CoinGlass; the monthly loss was not yet final. Crypto markets were also dealing with the aftermath of a reported $6.3 billion theft of coins and tokens from Binance. The exchange said it would cover the losses with its own capital.
