Independent German Bundestag member Joana Cotar has strongly advocated for Bitcoin (BTC) and opposed the European Central Bank’s (ECB) push for a digital Euro. Cotar questioned the necessity and benefits of the digital Euro proposed by ECB President Christine Lagarde.
Cotar emphasized that the demand for a digital Euro is limited and raised concerns about financial risks and privacy issues. She criticized the ECB’s assurances on privacy, accusing authorities of leveraging surveillance under harmless initiatives. Cotar ended her speech urging people to “Study Bitcoin.”
On social media, Cotar argued that the digital Euro is a path to total surveillance, while Bitcoin offers unique opportunities for asset diversification and mitigating traditional investment risks. The German government has been active in the crypto market, recently liquidating significant amounts of Bitcoin, valued at nearly $76 million.
Cotar plans to continue her advocacy with an upcoming lecture featuring Bitcoin maximalist Samson Mow, positioning herself as a key voice in Europe’s digital currency debate. This strategic stance highlights Bitcoin’s potential to counteract centralized digital currencies.
