Crypto asset manager Hashdex and Nasdaq have filed for a dual Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETF. The proposal, revealed on June 18, aims to directly hold both cryptocurrencies, marking the first such combined exposure offering.
Approved by the SEC earlier this year, spot Bitcoin ETFs set the stage for this new filing. Hashdex’s ETF will be market cap weighted, as noted by Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart. The SEC’s approval deadline is March 2025.
A standout feature is that the ETF will also hold cash, with Coinbase Custody Trust and BitGo Trust as custodians. Unlike other firms, Hashdex isn’t pursuing a standalone Ethereum ETF.
This ETF could expand investment options and diversify risks. By merging Bitcoin and Ethereum into one product, Hashdex aims to attract broader investor interest.
Long-term, this dual ETF could pave the way for more diversified crypto investment products. For more details, see the announcement on Hashdex’s proposal and Nasdaq’s disclosure.
