Bitcoin Moves to Chainlink Amid DeFi Fears

Kraken Transitions Wrapped Bitcoin to Chainlink Amid DeFi Security Concerns

  • Kraken is moving its wrapped Bitcoin (kBTC) to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as part of a security upgrade.
  • The exchange will exclusively use CCIP for all future Kraken Wrapped Assets, following bridge-security issues in the DeFi space.
  • kBTC is a Bitcoin-backed wrapper, redeemable at a rate of 1 kBTC for each Bitcoin held in custody by Kraken Financial.
  • Currently, around 100 kBTC tokens are in supply, with most on the Ethereum blockchain.
  • Kraken’s decision comes after significant DeFi projects reassessed their cross-chain token movements due to recent exploits.

This migration highlights the increasing focus on security and infrastructure in the cryptocurrency market, particularly for wrapped assets like kBTC that facilitate transactions across multiple networks.

As Kraken adopts CCIP for its wrapped assets, it aims to enhance trust and usability while addressing ongoing risks associated with cross-chain transactions. (Source)
