Bullish hashrate traders expect Bitcoin’s price to go up over next six months

As Bitcoin rallies to approximately $70,000, hashrate futures traders show bullish sentiment, expecting a rise in hashprice over the next six months, a stance highlighted by the Hashrate Index in May 2024. This optimism is based on predictions that Bitcoin’s mining difficulty may plateau and transaction fees could increase, potentially pushing Bitcoin’s price even higher. A unique aspect of this situation is the trading of hashrate forwards in contango since the last Halving, indicating future hashprice quotes consistently above the spot price, showcasing traders’ confidence in Bitcoin’s upward trajectory.

Despite Bitcoin’s price surge, hashrate growth remains slow, anticipated to stay between 600-700 EH/s through Q2 and Q3 of 2024, suggesting a cautious but optimistic outlook on Bitcoin’s future mining economics. This scenario underscores the strategic importance of understanding hashrate dynamics as a predictor of Bitcoin’s market movements, offering insights into the cryptocurrency’s potential for sustained growth.
