Bitcoin: Jersey City Pension Fund Invests in ETFs

Jersey City’s pension fund plans to invest in spot Bitcoin ETFs, as announced by Hudson County Mayor Steven Fulop. The move, set to begin by summer 2024, underscores growing confidence in cryptocurrencies.

Fulop highlighted blockchain technology’s transformative impact, likening it to the internet. The city has filed SEC documents for investment approval, a crucial step for authorization. This initiative draws a parallel to Wisconsin’s pension fund, which recently allocated 2% of its assets to crypto ETFs.

Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas noted that Bitcoin ETFs have shown impressive performance since January 2024. Over 600 companies have invested $3.5 billion in spot Bitcoin ETFs, marking robust institutional adoption.

Jersey City’s decision signifies a pivotal shift towards integrating cryptocurrency into traditional finance, potentially transforming investment landscapes.
