Bitcoin Plummets Amid US Iran Tensions

Base Network Launches Azul Update, Enhancing Performance and Security

  • The Azul update is Base’s first independent hard fork, separate from Optimism’s Superchain.
  • It introduces a multi-proof system combining zero-knowledge (ZK) technology and trusted execution environment (TEE) mechanisms.
  • Withdrawal times are expected to decrease to one day with this upgrade.
  • The update has reduced empty blocks by approximately 99%, from around 200 to just two daily.
  • Base’s network can reach transaction spikes of up to 5000 transactions per second.
  • As of late May, Base had about $4.4 billion in total value locked (TVL) and stablecoin volumes nearing $4.98 billion.

The activation of the Azul update represents a significant advancement for the Ethereum ecosystem, enhancing both performance and decentralization efforts within the Base network. This upgrade aligns with broader goals of improving security and reducing reliance on centralized components in blockchain technology.

With the reduction of empty blocks by nearly all instances and improved transaction speeds, Base is poised to strengthen its position as a leading DeFi platform in the cryptocurrency space.
