The Bitcoin staking protocol Babylon has raised $70 million in a new investment round, led by Paradigm, with contributions from Polychain Capital, Hashkey Capital, and HTX Ventures. This funding aims to enhance Bitcoin’s utility through Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanisms.
Babylon’s innovative approach allows users to stake their Bitcoin holdings, earning returns while securing the network. Previously, Babylon received $18 million from Binance’s venture division and partnered with the Nomic DAO Foundation to launch a liquid staking Bitcoin token.
This strategic move could significantly scale Bitcoin’s use in decentralized finance, reducing inflation within PoS blockchains. Babylon’s advancements mark a pivotal development in the cryptocurrency space, potentially reshaping the crypto landscape and fostering broader adoption of decentralized systems.
The successful investment round underscores the growing confidence in Bitcoin’s evolving functionalities and highlights Babylon’s potential to make significant contributions to the decentralized economy.
