The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved Grayscale’s Bitcoin Mini Trust, a new investment product to be traded on NYSE Arca under the ticker BTC. Final trading will commence once the SEC approves Grayscale’s S-1 form, submitted in March 2024.
This approval marks a significant milestone in cryptocurrency investment, introducing a spot Bitcoin ETP with a commission rate of just 0.15%, ten times lower than the existing GBTC. On July 31, 2024, Grayscale will transfer 10% of GBTC-held bitcoins to the Mini Trust, providing current GBTC shareholders proportional shares in the new trust.
The lower commission rate makes Bitcoin investment more accessible and affordable, potentially broadening investor participation. Grayscale’s management of approximately $17.5 billion in assets through GBTC further underscores its market influence.
The launch of the Bitcoin Mini Trust could reshape the landscape of digital asset investments, driving increased interest and integration of cryptocurrencies in traditional financial markets.
