Senator Proposes Treasury Purchase of 1M Bitcoin

Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis announced at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference a proposal for the U.S. government to purchase 1 million BTC. This move aims to bolster the U.S. dollar amidst rising inflation and solidify the nation’s leadership in global finance.

This historic initiative marks the first time a U.S. senator has proposed such a substantial investment in cryptocurrency. The acquired bitcoin will be held for 20 years and could be used to repay national debt.

A standout feature is the creation of a decentralized, secure network managed by the U.S. Treasury to store the bitcoin. This ensures financial security without infringing on individual freedoms.

Holding 1 million BTC, which is about 5% of the total supply, could encourage other nations to explore similar strategies, driving broader crypto adoption. This bold strategy could significantly impact the global financial landscape, reinforcing the U.S.’s financial innovation and leadership.
