Dark Web Drug Ring Used Crypto to Launder Millions
- Five individuals, including ringleader Nan Wu, pleaded guilty to operating FireBunnyUSA, a dark web drug vendor active from January 2019 to August 2022.
- Wu was sentenced to six and a half years in prison and ordered to forfeit approximately 20 BTC, 3,297 XMR, and $12,857 in cash.
- The operation laundered over $7.9 million through cryptocurrencies, converting funds into Monero before exchanging them back into Bitcoin.
- At least $2.4 million was laundered as Chinese Yuan abroad and over $734,000 converted into U.S. dollars through crypto exchanges.
The FireBunnyUSA network distributed cocaine, MDMA, and ketamine across all U.S. states using the dark web while laundering millions through cryptocurrency exchanges overseas.
